1989 Change – and Preservation Order

With the fall of the Berlin Wall and the German reunification, a new era began once again: full of hope, but also with some disappointment and many shattered dreams. Lychen (since 1996 a state-approved climatic health resort) however is still what it's been 100 years ago: tourist magnet, oasis of well-being, place of longing with seven lakes.
In the store of the SOMMERFRISCHE, GDR clothing consumption was first followed by the "Modehaus Elegant", then, from 2007 to 2020, Lychen's tourism office moved in.
As early as 1989, the ensemble of houses of the SOMMERFRISCHE was placed under a preservation order because the buildings "exemplify the structural change": From the dyer's house (18th century) via the street house (19th century) to the intermediate wing (20th century). In a similar way and completeness, according to the Office for the Protection of Monuments, "rarely can this be experienced today".
